Science

Science is one of the core subjects in St Marys. Students study the Biological World, Physical World, Chemical World and Earth & Space over the three years at Junior Cycle (common level).

In second year students carry out their CBA 1 – Extended Experimental investigation. Students get to research, plan and design their own experiment and submit a written report to their teacher over a three week period.

In third year students carry out their CBA 2 – Science in Society. Students get to research and investigate an issue that interests them.

In TY students get a taste of four sciences Biology, Physics, and Chemistry  in the hope to make a more informed decision for Leaving Cert subjects.

Options for Leaving Cert students include Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Agricultural Science both at higher and ordinary level.

We encourage students to develop a sense of enjoyment in the learning of science, leading to a lifelong interest in science.
