History

In Junior Cycle History , we lay the groundwork by exploring a variety of fascinating topics. We look at the rise and fall of great civilizations like ancient Rome and the powerful impact they had on law, language, and culture. We also delve into the Middle Ages, examining the lives of people from knights to peasants and the role of the Church in medieval society. You’ll learn about Ireland’s rich past, from the arrival of the Celts to the Norman invasion, which profoundly shaped our national identity.

As you move into Transition Year, you get to dive deeper into some really important global issues. We explore the complex and often controversial topic of colonialism and its lasting effects on different societies. We also look at the concept of development, examining how and why some countries have prospered while others have faced challenges. This is a great opportunity to explore the lives of important historical figures from both Ireland and around the world, understanding their motivations and their impact on history.

In the Senior Cycle, students have the opportunity to study important topics which have shaped the modern world, including Ireland’s quest for independence, the world wars and  American and world history.
