This week our Transition Year students will engage with a full timetable of virtual activities that includes guest speakers, online courses, and tutorials.

Monday saw students engaged with the Reach+ programme to investigate future careers and to examine the myriad opportunities available to them. This was followed by a talk from Ms Duggan about nutrition in the working environment. Plenty of practical insight was given here in how to create a healthy breakfast, lunch, and even how to best snack throughout the day.

Tuesday saw students engage with Yvonne Conaty of IBM with whom they earned online badges through the fantastic resource, Open Ptech, @PTECHIreland. Students can build on their professional and digital skills here that will be beneficial to them in their transition from school to work. Later that day, students took part in module on how to stay fit in the workplace. With the help of Ms Farrell, students worked in pairs to explore the importance of exercise even when you are on a busy schedule.

On Day Three of our TY Virtual Work Experience, students met with local business owners Evelyn and Lorraine O’ Leary from about how to make a good first impression in the workplace. Included in this was a tutorial on appropriate attire and professional appearance which the girls really appreciated. Not only that, both Lorraine and Evelyn explained what inspired them to become entrepreneurs as well as the skills and resources required to become a beautician.

Followed by this was a presentation by past pupil, Mary Lane, who is a Talent Acquisitions Partner in Vistakon Limerick. Mary provided fantastic insight to the girls on her line of work but more specifically about the process of recruiting a new employee to the company. We’re so proud of how successful Mary has become and we were delighted to welcome her back to St Mary’s. Massive thanks to all our guest speakers so far this week for their contributions!
